Ways in Breeding Hamsters

Are you ready to take the next step in taking care of your pet hamster? Do you already know how to breed them so they can produce more hamsters? Aside from monitoring the development of your pet hamsters and playing with them regularly, there will surely come a time when your pet hamster would long to have his own family. It would search a mating partner and of course have their cute offsprings. They’d enjoy seeing 10 little cuties asking for their mom’s milk. As expected, pet owners particularly kids would also enjoy and get excited to see little hamsters come out. However, before that time comes, you must be ready enough to take on more tasks and learn more about hamster breeding.

For first time breeders, it is wise to follow the conventional way of breeding which is breeding a hamster with one of its own breed. Just leave the cross breeding to expert breeders because they are the only ones who can best perform cross breeding. If you have a pet dwarf hamster partner, look for a male dwarf hamster and let them mate. Some hamsters are anti-social when it comes to dealing with fellow hamsters so make sure to introduce them early. Hamsters are less solitary when it comes to relating with same breed inside the same hamster cage.

Animal experts say that hamsters begin to get sexually active at the age of 6 weeks but then they are still too young to do so this often results to cannibalism. Of course you wouldn’t want your pet to eat their or harm their babies right? Make sure to stop them from mating at this early. The best age for a hamster to conceive a baby is when they reach 2-3 months old but not longer than 6 months because this may result to some birth complications.  Monitor the age of your hamster so you will know the best time to breed.

If you are interested to know how many time females hamsters give birth then the answe is only two to three times. You need to wait 3-4 months before you can breed them again.  Just like human beings, female hamster’s body need to heal and recover after the antagonizing process of giving birth. You can expect about 2 babies per birth and very seldom it can produce 3 babies. You are very lucky if this happens.

Now if are about to begin breeding your hamsters, then you should remember that hamsters are mostly unsociable so you should be prepared to separate them inside hamster cages upon noticing that they are not comfortable with one another. Make sure to use your protective gloves in separating them for you might get bitten. If they connect well, then leave them for about 15 minutes then part them afterwards or upon seeing that they are losing interest.

Reading helpful guides and articles about hamster breeding is very critical so you can properly breed your hamsters.

Hamsters are animals that belong to the rodent subfamily of Cricetinae. They are known to active at night or during twilight. . They are asleep during the day and are alive at twilight. Hamsters are nowadays by and large taken in households as pets. They are fantastic pets because they do not need high maintenance, they are inexpensive and most of them are harmless even to children. However, hamsters are solitary or antisocial animals. They detest being surrounded by fellow hamsters. Thus, they should be kept alone in their cage to avoid being violent.

Hamsters are said to originate in the Middle East and Southern Europe. The first hamster was found in 1839 by a British zoologist named George Waterhouse. The hamster seen is a female and was called “Cricetus Auratus”. It is regarded today as the golden hamster breed.

Then, a professor named Israel Aharoni of the University of Jerusalem found a hamster with 12 young hamsters in 1930 in the Syrian Desert. But then, only 3 of the hamsters remained alive upon reaching his laboratory. They are now the breed of Syrian hamsters. Hamsters started ot become popular when they were brought to England. Golden hamsters were also brought in the year 1938 in the US.

The term hamster came from the German word “hamstern” which means “to store” because hamsters like to collect and store food in their pouches.  Hamsters are available in different colors. There are white, brown, cream and gray hamsters. There are also several types of hamsters but the most popular are dwarf and Syrian hamsters. Hamsters also differ in the length of their hair; some have short hair while others have longer hair. They are also usually placed in hamster cages.

A lot of animal experts consider hamsters as good pets because generally they are harmless, friendly, cute and easy to take care of. If you plan to buy a hamster, then you should prepare a hamster cage so it can live comfortable inside his own cage. Keep your hamster healthy by taking good care of it and providing all its needs.

The hamsters’ natural habitat is the tunnels and they are usually surrounded by dirt and sand. To give them the same habitat you should place a thick layer of substrate and is possible you could have the plastic tubes as well. Hence while you are placing the substrate layer make humps and nests, so that they could hide and dig as well.

To care of that bit you need to ensure that the cage is strong and should regularly check it for the same as well. As in case they escape from the cage it would be literally impossible to trace them back. To keep their restlessness low you could have a small rolling wheel in the cage so that they could run as much as they want on the same.
