How Long Should I Let My Hamster Spin In His Exercise Ball?

I have put my hamster in one of those clear plastic balls that they can roll around in. The cage exercise wheel drives me nuts because of the noise, so do you think it’s okay if I leave the hamster in the ball for longer than 30 minutes at a time? My computer is in the same room as the hamster, so I would be able to make sure he’s okay, but how long is too long? He bumps into furniture all the time, but he seems to enjoy it lol

Well, I usually kept my hamster in for thirty-forty five minutes. I always made sure to give him a treat first, and see if he used the bathroom because if they stay in there too long they’ll use the bathroom and leave trails all over the floor. Also make sure your hamster is careful when he bumps into things. Since the ball is made of plastic it can crack and over time it can crack open and your hamster can escape. So, make sure to check for cracks and clean it after every use.

If he just goes to sleep, you should put him back. As long as he’s running around, you can keep him out a bit longer. Just look for him every so often so if he’s stuck, he’s not just sitting there for 20 minutes.

2 hours max! Young hamsters that run to much get addicted to it. They run and run and run! They never stop! While they are running and running they could get a heart attack and die right there, its not good. And the older ones that get hooked on it arre in danger too!
My hamster was like that, but thats not how he died. We got him un-addicted!

when he looks like he’s not running, and that he is trying to dig his way out of it, its time to go out. just keep an eye on him.

I suggest leaving him/her in about 30 minutes or less. An hour TOPS- if he/she gets tired(falls asleep in ball) take him/her out. Also don’t forget to OIL a wheel if metal.

well, when I had hamsters previous to the one I just bought yesterday,I left them in there around 30 mins once they were adults but when there young like tubby (the hamster I got yesterday) who is 7 weeks I would make it around 10 minutes so they don’t get over tired, but his addicted to his wheel inside his cage so he can finish off his little run in his cage if he likes after his run in his ball :) but make sure your hamster gets to spend time with you,if he or she doesn’t they could become very cautious of there where abouts and could become aggressive!

I let my hamster out EVERYDAY at 7:30-9 on weeknights and around 10 on weekends. I give him a few sunflower seeds before he goes in so he can snack…do this espeshally if you notice that they aren’t eating enough so it forces them to eat. He’s very healthy and he usually goes to sleep right after then wakes up runs for 2 hours then back to sleep during the night.
